"DC by Night"
"My first book cover. This painting stands out in my memory as how difficult it was to be an artist before the internet. I had designed the cover, and had it approved by the art director without having acquired a reliable reference of the Washington DC Mall at night, looking from the top of the Washington Monument towards the capitol. I wrote to the DC tourist bureau, and scoured every book I could find to no avail. Finally I took a trip by train into NYC to visit the 42nd St. branch of the public library, home to the picture reference collection. There I found the needed image. I don't know how artists lived before Google."
